ResidentialWe run between 10-14 residential experiences per year, varying from one to five nights, usually during the school holidays.
Residential experiences model community living, and use the arts, cookery, development of life skills and issue-based working, as well as traditional outward-bound activities. Each of theGKexperience residentials are bespoke, designed to support and develop the specific group of young people attending.. theGKexperience uses regulated providers for licensed outdoor designed activities. The model which underpins the work of theGKexperience – working with young people over a sustained period of time in their local settings and then allowing the outdoor residential and wilderness experience to help them to soar – is affirmed through the young people’s stories. |
Local SupportLocally based youth work takes different forms in each community context.
Milton - A group of young people aged between 15-20 that meet on Mondays after school at the Milton Arts Project. Possilpark - A group of young people aged between 20-30 that meet on Wednesdays after school at the Possilpark parish church.. Just Do It - A small group of young people aged between 12-15. These young people are brought together from different areas of Glasgow to try new activities, have fun, eat well. |
Young Leaders The Young Leaders, aged between 16 and 21 volunteer with theGKexperience on residentials, in local settings, and with the administration and running of the organisation. They are made up of young people who have come up through activities, who are then offered to apply to join the programme. If successful they receive their 'Green Hoodie' at our annual celebration event. As part of the programme they receive supervision and support from theGKexperience, and they bring energy, enthusiasm and a diverse range of skills and insight to the organisation. We support them with advice and guidance for further education, training, employment, health and welfare. At the end of their time as a young leader, they are offered the chance to graduate and become an adult volunteer, receiving their 'Blue Hoodie' at our annual celebration event.

The ContainerThe Container is the name we give to all the additional support that we offer outside of the other three activity programmes. The name is taken from a therapeutic understanding of keeping young people safe and supported. It is tailored to individual young people needs and is often in response to a particular situation. It includes (but is not limited to) home visits, mentoring, Christmas support, school support, multi-agency meetings, birthday celebrations and essential practical support.
The model of support we offer is integrated across all four areas of our project and is focussed on building strong relationships over years not weeks. It is this combination of support that makes the biggest difference.
